Open Access
Intro policy
In mid-2019, ZonMw announced its support of Plan S, and since 1 January 2021, Plan S has been implemented within ZonMw policy. Since that time, ZonMw has made Open Access publication compulsory. Read more about the ZonMw Open Access policy.
Intro background information
Open Access publications are more easily findable, are cited more often and reach a wider readership. ZonMw not only wants its publications to be directly accessible to scientists but also to clinicians, patients and individual citizens. It is also essential that publications can be rapidly read and shared by professionals from the business community and civil society organisations. In this way, Open Access helps science advance, and encourages the exchange of knowledge between disciplines and between science and society. Read more about the background to Open Access.
Intro instructions
ZonMw requires all applicants and project leaders to comply with the ZonMw Open Access policy. For applicants, this means when submitting their application, among others, they are aware of the policy and include any Open Access publication costs in their budget if permitted according to the project description. During and following completion of the project, project leaders then comply with the instructions for Open Access publication. Read the instructions for Open Access publication for applicants and for project leaders.
