Vidi round 2024 open for pre-proposals

Researchers who have conducted postdoctoral-level research and successfully developed their own innovative ideas are welcome to apply for a Vidi grant. They may develop their own innovative line of research and appoint one or more researchers for this purpose. The grant amounts to a maximum of EUR 850,000.

A short summary of Vidi

Vidi is a funding instrument from the NWO Talent Programme. The Vidi target group consists of researchers in transition to leadership. They also have academic qualities that clearly transcend what is usual and demonstrate development of leadership and mentoring qualities. The Vidi grant funds scientifically innovative research and allows researchers to establish or expand a research group.

Who can apply

Applications can be submitted by PhD researchers with or without (permanent) employment, from the Netherlands or abroad. Researchers can apply if they obtained their PhD in the eight years prior to the round's cut-off date, 1 October 2024. Extension may be granted for this submission deadline in certain cases (see from section 3.4.2 in the call for proposals).

Mandatory pre-proposal phase

Applicants must submit a preproposal to be considered for a Vidi. If a positive decision follows the preapplication, the applicant is invited to submit a full application. If a negative decision follows the preapplication, the applicant cannot submit a full application.

Important dates

The planning for the 2024 Vidi round is as follows:

  • The deadline for submitting pre-proposals is 5 November 2024 14:00 pm
  • The deadline for submitting full applications is 8 April 2025 2pm
